Now let’s talk about what India’s law is about the live-in relationship

Indian Law on live-in relationship

These relationships have been approved in Indian law. If a young man and a woman live in a live-in relationship voluntarily, they are not illegal. But according to the Supreme Court, in order for a relationship to be considered a live-in relationship, four things must be proved –

  • In this way, young girls living in live-in relationships will have to live as husband and wife.
  • The age of the boy and the girl should be fulfilled by the law for marriage.
  • Apart from this, all the other qualifications other than the right age for marriage should be fulfilled, like – both should be unmarried.
  • Men and women living in a live-in relationship have to live like a husband and wife for a long period.

Advantages of live-in relationship

Some of the benefits of the live-in relationship are as follows –

1.Easy to know your  partner

In the live-in relationship, you get full time to know the partner. In this, you observe and understand every behavior of the partner very closely. Apart from this, you also do not have difficulty in knowing about his personality. Whereas by meeting for one or two days in marriage, you do not know anything about the person in front.

2.Financially dependent

In such a relationship, financially, no party needs to become a burden on anyone. However, there is no financial burden on anyone even when the relationship ends. In this relationship, you can spend money on your partner on your own free will. You are not obliged to spend money on the front.

3.Freedom from social obligations

The decision to stay in a live-in relationship only gives you freedom from social and family obligations. Social and family rules do not apply to you in this relationship. In such a situation, there is no pressure on you to accept them. Also, you get full time for yourself.

4. There is no accountability on any subject

You are not accountable for anything after being in a live-in relationship. Of course, on this relationship, you talk openly about your actions, yet why are you doing such work. No one needs to answer for this.

5.Freedom from getting caught in legal matters

In a live-in relationship, you do not go through the legal process like a marriage. Apart from this, you have to go through many types of legal process when the marriage breaks down, but in this, you do not have so much difficulty in ending the relationship.

6.Respect each other

If anyone has any kind of problem in such a relationship, that person can easily go out of the relationship. Having full freedom to break out of the relationship, both partners have to take full care of each other’s respect.

Disadvantages of live-in relationship

There are also some disadvantages of the live-in a relationship. They are as follows –

1.Fear of mistrust

Fear of mistrust always haunts those living in relationships. In this relationship, both the partners are free to come out of the relationship, so both of them keep on fearing and this is why they are not able to spend their life openly and happily.

2.Easy to break up

Although this is typical of a live-in relationship, some people consider it bad. Many times one partner proceeds by hurting the other. There are promises and vows in this relationship, but everyone depends on their wishes. There is an ease in relationship breakdown so you come out of it easily. Whereas in marriage you have to go through many types of legal processes outside of the relationship and sometimes the legal process takes years.

3.Decreased importance of the relationship

In many cases in the live-in relationship, the respect and importance of the relationship between both partners are rarely seen. The big reason for this is that both of them already have this in their mind that they can come out of this relationship at any time. In such a relationship, they postpone the decision to marry for their financial and personal freedom.

4.Have a bad effect on children

It is seen that the children of those living in the relationship have a bad effect on their minds. Usually, their children do not have respect for rules. Apart from this, they feel more insecure than other children in the society. If their parents get separated due to some reason, then they do not know anything about family beliefs and their needs.

5.Face social condemnation

Even though in today’s society, a live-in relationship is increasingly in circulation among the youth, but even today it has not got social recognition in Indian society. So those in this relationship are viewed with poor eyesight. People living in these relationships do not rent their rooms easily.

6.Becomes very difficult for women

In Indian society, there has been a slight decrease in the male-oriented mindset of the people today, but still many people are promoting this mentality. In such a situation, if a male partner leaves from a live-in relationship, then there is a lot of harassment in female society. Apart from this, it is also difficult for the woman to find a partner again.
